The Ghaziabad Police, on Tuesday, seized demonetised currency notes worth Rs 15.30 lakh, which were being taken from Delhi to Ghaziabad.
The police caught hold of a car that was carrying the cash in Kaushambi near Delhi-Ghaziabad border.
"We received a tip-off about some persons going towards Ghaziabad with a huge amount of demonetised currency notes. The four accused men were travelling in a Santro car and were stopped during the checking at Kaushambi. The officers found Rs 15 lakh and thirty thousand in the bag.
They had come to Ghaziabad to get their old notes exchanged with new ones against commission" said Salman Taj Patil, Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad.
"All the four persons are detained by the police. We will interrogate them further to reach other members of the racket. We have detained them and the income tax department has been informed. The arrests will be made after the income tax officials ascertain why the notes were not exchanged before December 31, 2016," added Patil.
