NEW DELHI: The team of Special Staff, South-East District has busted a gang of robbers identified as Vijay Bhatia alias Goldy, 31 years, resident of Malviya Nagar, Sanjay 28 years from Mehrauli, and Rohit Tanwar, 26 years from Bhiwani (Haryana). One sophisticated pistol along-with 2 live cartridges, one country-made pistol along with two live cartridges, one button knife and one Scorpio car have been recovered from their possession.

During sustained interrogation, accused persons disclosed that they all work for notorious Sonu Punjaban. Accused Vijay and Sanjay are cousins of Sonu Punjaban and are previously involved in several cases including cases of ITP Act. At present, Sonu Punjaban is in judicial custody and in her absence they were looking after her gang.

Accused Vijay Bhatia further disclosed that he had received message from Aakash husband of Sonu Punjaban, to influence witnesses in the pending trial case of Sonu Punjaban. Accused Vijay Bhatia arranged a pistol and knife from one Rakesh alias Kaka and was going with his associates to threaten the witnesses in that case.

"Accused persons further disclosed that they got registered their mobile phone numbers on different online service enquiry portals. They had engaged some girls to allure victims, on the pretext of friendship. The victims used to contact the accused persons through these online portals and when they showed their interest in meeting the girls, the accused persons fixed the time and location of meeting," said DCP South East Chinmoy Biswal.

On reaching the meeting place, the accused persons first took the payment and de-board the girl at victim's car. Thereafter, accused persons would immediately leave the spot and after that, as per plan, the girl refused to accompany with the customer and used to threaten him. Afraid, the customers would leave the girls at the spot and would not report the incident to police due to fear of social stigma.
