Road mishap casualties on the rise due to public apathy in Ggn

Gurugram: Civic apathy has been on the rise among the busy citizens of Gurugram and often led to death of road accident victims.
The proof of this horrible realisation came on Thursday after authorities released CCTV footage of an accident which took place on May 6 at Sikandarpur underpass, which claimed the lives of two men and left a woman pilot seriously injured.
The footage shows that after the accident early in the morning, more than 50 vehicles passed the scene between 5.30 am and 6.30 am, but none stopped to offer help to the victims.
Worse even, a hospital is located nearby and barely a two-minute drive from the spot of the accident.
However, most passersby and commuters did not gather courage to take the victims for treatment, resulting in the loss of the driver and the security guard travelling in the Swift car.
Shockingly, many people took photographs and shot videos of the scene, and later uploaded on the internet.
At a time when deadly accidents are on the rise in Gurugram, the case once again raises the necessity of first aid to road mishap victims at the right time.
"The first two hours are the golden hours for survival of a victim. At this juncture, basic awareness and proper display of steps by samaritans can prevent excessive bleeding and save patient's life," said Dr BK Rajoura, Chief Medical Officer, District Health Department, Gurugram.
"The basic objective should be to prevent further bleeding. For this, the wounded area must be pressed with plastic or a cloth, until the victim reaches the hospital.
"Moreover, the patient should not be made to have water. Making the victim consume water in most situations causes the lungs to aspirate, which leads to further complications or even death," he added.
On May 6, a 30-year-old woman pilot working with a private airline was critically injured after the car she was travelling was hit by an overspeeding SUV.
