Rewari gangrape:SIT arrests 6th accused

Gurugram: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) made a sixth arrest in the Rewari gangrape case after getting hold of Naveen alias Nikku. Naveen is serving in the Indian Army.

He was arrested from Odisha where he was posted. His arrest was made after it was revealed in the investigations that he was present at the scene of the crime where a teenager who was former CBSE topper was gang-raped.

Even though there are three names namely Manish, Nishu and Pankaj that have emerged, there have been allegation that there were more than 10 people involved in raping the 19-year-old.

Naveen is the second serving Army man who has been arrested after Pankaj. While Pankaj was commissioned in the Indian Army two years ago, Naveen has been enrolled in March.

He belongs to the same villas as that of the rape victim. Amid the arrests, the 19-year-old is still being treated at Rewari hospital.

Aspiring to be an Engineer with Indian Railways, she was scheduled to sit for her examination on September 19.

While returning from her tuition classes on September 12, she was abducted from Rewari, taken to Mahendargarh and then gangraped. The first arrest in the case was that of Nishu who is believed to be the main accused.

The law enforcement officials also arrested D Sanjeev and Deen Dayal for abetting the crime. Eleven days after being in hiding, the other two accused, namely Manish and Pankaj, too were arrested.

In this case, however, the lackadaisical approach adopted by Haryana Police has been criticised
