Religious sentiments of man hurt as miscreants forcibly chop off his beard

Gurugram: In a formal complaint registered with Gurugram Police, a man named as Jaffruddin alleged that his religious sentiments were hurt after his beard was cut forcibly.

According to the complainant, he and his friend on Tuesday were roaming in Khandsa mandi with his friend Ibrahim when certain men commented on their looks that led to a fight between them.

As the fight intensified, they forcibly took him to a nearby salon and forced the barber to cut the beard.

There are also reports that the barber also manhandled him physically after he refused to get the beard cut. Subsequently, three men were arrested on Thursday for not only offending his religious identity but also allegedly assaulting him.

The accused were identified as Gaurav, Eklash from Uttar Pradesh and Nitin from Haryana.

The victim belongs to Badli village in Mewat and works in a restaurant in Sector-29 Gurugram. "The incident occurred on July 31 when the accused started insulting Jaffruddin in Khandsa Mandi.

"Jaffruddin initially ignored the religious insults but he finally retorted the matter to the police. Following this, the accused assaulted Jaffruddin and took him to a saloon and chopped his beard off. Before leaving the saloon, the accused warned Jaffruddin against contacting the police," Gurugram Police PRO Subhash Bokan said.

On the next day, Jaffruddin approached Sector-37 police station and registered a case.

Following the complaint, certain groups of the minority community also wrote to the Gurugram police commissioner mentioning how certain anti-social elements were trying to disrupt the communal atmosphere in the city through such acts.

The top cop in his reply assured of a strict action against the people who committed such an act.

Gurugram (Crime) DCP Sumit Kuhar confirmed that the accused have been arrested and rejected the idea of the involvement of an organisation in the incident. Kuhar said, "Three persons including the barber have been arrested and will be produced before the court on Friday. This is an isolated incident and no organization is involved in it."
