Rape accused lands in woman cop's 'honey-trap'

NEW DELHI: Not every girl you meet on social networking site is really a girl you think so, there are also some cops who are hunting for the absconding criminals to trap them and get them behind bars.

In an interesting case of Rohini district, a rape accused on the run was finally nailed by a lady constable of Begampur who honey-trapped him on Facebook. The accused identified as Alok Ranjan was arrested after he finally decided to meet his 'Love' in reality.

It all started in 2016 when a juvenile girl met Alok in a train. Soon they became friends and exchanged numbers. After the initial phase of friendship Alok pretended marriage and raped the girl and fled leaving the girl behind. The girl then approached police and lodged an FIR. The police under the supervision of Station House Officer of Begampur RS Meena formed a team comprising constable Ravikant and Constable Pradeep and a lady officer. Since Alok had changed his mobile number the best way to track him was on social networking sites. The victim told the cops his mail id and the lady police officer made a fake girl's id by the name of 'Priyanka' to trap the accused.

The lady constable spent hours to develop friendship with the accused. Soon, the boy fell in the honeytrap of 'Priyanka'. It was then the lady constable asked him to step out of the virtual world and meet her 'online love' in reality.

Alok was desperate to meet her when he came to Rohini on 19 November. The police team was tracking him and arrested him as he met the lady constable, turning his 'date' from romantic to scary. "The accused has been sent to judicial custody. We had to honey-trap him to get him out of his Den," said a senior police officer.
