Rain in Gurugram leads to closing of newly opened waterlogged underpass

Gurugram: Sunday's heavy rainfall proved to be again one of those embarrasing moments for the public officials in Gurugram when few minutes of rainfall again led to large parts of Millennium city being inundated.

The telling statement on the city's ineffective drainage system came from the MG road which was heavily waterlogged and had to be closed for the traffic as it was completely waterlogged.

Ironically, the MG Road underpass which was just opened in May this year and could be not be inaugurated by the top politicians because of General elections being round the corner.

Though not as worse, the inundation of MG road underpass brought back the memories of the Hero Chowk underpass which was filled with 20 feet of water last year in 2018 and it took three days for the public officials to drain out the water.

Other areas that were heavily waterlogged leading to the slow-moving traffic was the Dikanderpur, IFFCO Chowk, Chowk, Jharsa Road, Golf Course Road, Old Delhi Road and Sohna road.

Already on their toes because of the troubles faced by the commuters in, during previous monsoon showers, it was a difficult time for the Gurugram traffic police.

A large number of officials had to be deployed on the road to manage the traffic. Despite a large number of officials being present on the road large amount of water present on the city roads ensured that the commuters had to face difficulty in navigating their way on Sunday evening.

The residents of Gurugram again vented their ire on the infrastructure of the city not being able to cope up with the rains.

"Few hours of rains and Gurugram roads turn into a river.

During this, it is advisable to not travel by cars but by boats. What is even more shameful is that the recently revamped roads where hundreds of crores have been spent also get waterlogged," said Mayank Bharadwaj.

If the rains in many citizens expressing their anger against district planners what saved the day for the district administration was the proactiveness of Gurugram traffic police.

Not only did the police department made sure that the citizens of the situation of traffic digitally but more than 1000 professionals were on the ground managing the traffic.

They, in turn, made sure e that the traffic moved slowly and did not get stalled.
