Quick thinking policeman used taekwondo skills to save victims
New Delhi: Head constable Deepak, posted at Dwarka South police station, was on his patrolling duty along with a constable when he noticed some students crying for help on Wednesday.
Deepak saw Bhavesh Parekh stuck to an iron board touching an electric pole, and understood that the boys were in deep trouble.
They all were struck with one another, and Deepak quickly realised they were being electrocuted.
As passerby at the spot remained mere spectators, Deepak, without wasting time, rushed to the students and used his Taekwondo training to rescue the boys.
"With the rains continuing, I realised they are in trouble. I rushed towards them and used a front push Taekwondo kick to push them away from the board and it fortunately worked.
"Bhavesh had his hands off the board and he fell on the ground. The other three also fell away," said Deepak, a black belt in Taekwondo has represented Delhi in National games in 1997.
The head constable used his basic training and tried to revive Bhavesh through CPR, after which the students were immediately rushed him to Venkateshwar Hospital, Dwarka, in an auto. However, Bhavesh succumbed to his injuries.
"The quick response of the head constable Deepak was enough to save the life of the three aviation students," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh said.
However, Deepak still feels had he been able to save Bhavesh things would have been different.
"I might have rescued three boys but I would have been more happy had I been able to save Bhavesh. I tried hard to save him, but I could not," said the brave policeman.
