Protest to oppose construction of dumping yard in Noida Sec-123

Noida: Amid massive opposition to the construction of a dumping yard at Sector-123, Noida, police on Monday detained around 50 people for protesting and interrupting the construction work.
The protest turned massive on Monday when protesters pelted stones on the police party and the police used force to drag them away from the site. Cops had to resort to using water cannons and lathi charge.
Several residents of the area were injured during police lathi charge while they were trying to interrupt the construction work at the site.
Over 100 policemen, including the PAC force, were deployed at the site to ensure law and order, police sources said.
Around 12 pm, heavy police force was pressed into action, after a call was received that hundreds of residents from nearby villages and sectors were trying to interrupt construction work at the dumping yard. The protesters included men, women and elderly people.
"At first, we requested them to stay behind and vacate the location peacefully but instead of coping with us they started pelting stones on the police party. The police had to use force in order to pacify them and used water cannon to disperse them" said Amit kumar Singh, Station House Officer of Phase 3 police station.
Meanwhile, the residents of the area gathered and held meetings at various locations to discuss their further action plan and said that they will do anything but won't let the authority build a landfill and put their lives at risk.
"Neither the police nor government can stop our protest against the dump yard. The police forcefully dragged us from the site ignoring where and whom they are hitting. Many of us were injured in the incident while they forcefully pulled around fifty people into a bus and detained them" said Mohit Yadav, a resident of sector 120, Noida.
