Gurugram: Commuters at the Delhi-Gurugram expressway had a harrowing time on Monday afternoon after drivers of a cab aggregator company held a protest and subsequently clashed with law enforcement officials, leading to a long traffic blockade at National Highway-8.
According to sources, the drivers were agitating against the murder of an Ola driver, who was kidnapped in Noida during a carjacking attempt. His body was later found in Alipur area of Delhi.
Like in other areas of the National Capital Region, drivers in Gurugram too have been demanding better security provisions for themselves.
Rajat Malhotra, a commuter stranded at the expressway, said "I urge the police to strictly deal with people who waste public money and time. You cannot protest by resorting to hooliganism and blocking a major traffic route."
It may be noted that this is not for the first time when drivers of cab aggregators in Gurugram have protests on busy routes. On Friday, drivers of Uber and Ola had called a strike on to lend support to a strike called by drivers in Mumbai. The strike, however, had little impact.
