Protest against construction of landfill in Noida continues

Noida: The protest against the under construction landfill at sector 123 of Noida continued on Tuesday. The residents of nearby villages and sectors have already been fighting hard to oppose the landfill and police arrested many of them on Monday for staging a protest at the site. The protesters have now decided to offer their arrest in order to get already arrested persons released and said that they will continue their protest and will not let the construction work continue at the site.
On Tuesday, scores of residents from nearby villages and sectors marched towards the construction site and offered their arrest to police. Police arrested 35 more persons on Tuesday for disrupting public peace under section 151 of the Indian penal code.
According to the villagers of nearby area, the garbage dumping yard in their locality will bring life of around 20,000 families at stake who reside in sectors 117, 118, 119, 120, 121, 122 and adjoining villages which they will never let happen. The residents of sectors 117 to 122 have already joined hands with the villagers of nearby villages to stage up the protest.
On Tuesday, scores of residents of the area gathered at the community hall of Parthala village and decided to offer their arresting in order to get the already arrested people released.
"Neither the authority nor the government are listening to us so we have decided to continue our protest as we can't risk the lives of our future generations. Many of us received severe injuries in the lathi charge by police on Monday while around 50 persons have been arrested by police. We have now decided to silently sit on the protest and force the police to arrest us" said Jitendra Sharma, a resident of Parthla village.
