New Delhi: A trivial parking scuffle on Thursday night became the tipping point of a decade-old feud over property between two siblings, leading to death of two brothers and the wife of one of them in north west Delhi's Model Town area.
54-year-old Jaspal and his younger brother 48-year-old Gurjeet were killed in a bloodbath which involved kirpans and guns, while Jaspal's wife Prabhjot succumbed to bullet injuries after one of Gurjeet's bouncers shot her. Moreover, Gurjeet's 24-year-old son Jagnoor sustained stab wounds and is battling for life in a Delhi hospital.
The incident occurred around 11.30 pm on Thursday, when Gurjeet objected to his Jaspal's car being parked outside their nearly 450 square feet house in the plush D block area of Model Town-2.
An angry Gurjeet reportedly punched and vandalised Jaspal's car. An enraged Jaspal then took out a kirpan and attacked Gurjeet.
Jagnoor tried to rescue his father from Jaspal, but ended up with a stab wound to his neck.
Alarmed by the commotion, Gurjeet's family residing on the first floor of the house came to the balcony and asked their two security guards to intervene.
Gurjeet's panic-stricken bouncers opened fire with their pistols and shot Jaspal multiple times.
Seeing her husband being shot at Jaspal's wife Prabhjot tried to save him, but was shot by the bouncers too.
The bouncers then fled the spot, leaving the family in a pool of blood, but were arrested on Friday. The wounded were taken to different hospitals but Jaspal, Gurjeet and Prabhjot succumbed to their injuries.
"Though fighting between Jaspal and Gurjeet over property matters was not unusual, we never expected things would take such an ugly turn," said a relative of the family, who did not wish to be named.
The siblings were both in the real estate and finance business and owned several properties worth crores of rupees in Delhi.
Gurjeet stayed on the first floor along with his wife and two sons, while Jaspal stayed on the ground floor with his wife, two daughters and a son. Jaspal was the owner of a bar-cum-lounge in Model Town-2.
"Gurjeet had hired bouncers and they remained with him like a shadow wherever he went. Things might not have escalated had the bouncers not opened fire," said a neighbour.
"We have arrested both the assailants Vicky and Pawan Kumar in the case. A case under sections 302 of the IPC and Arms Act has been registered," said Aslam Khan, DCP (North West).
