Preparations for Republic Day in full steam at Delhi's railway stations

New Delhi: "There is a bomb blast in New Delhi railway station." The message was flashed by Delhi railway police all across on Thursday.
Within a span of 10 minutes all concerned agencies rushed to the spot but upon arrival they find it was a mock drill.
This was a test conducted by city police to know how much its personnel are ready to tackle any terror attack.
According to police, the railway stations of the national Capital can be under the radar of terror attacks. So, they were checking the speed of its personnel and other agencies by conducting such mock drill.
A senior police officer claimed that the objective of the drill was successful but they do not want to leave any stone unturned for security arrangements for upcoming Republic Day.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railway) Parwaiz Ahmad said the drill makes people aware of how to tackle any emergency situation.
"People were watching the drill they will learn how to make sure about the safety and security during an emergency situation," said the DCP.
Delhi railway police looks after 45 railway stations and approximately 150 kilometres of railway track through seven police stations in the entire national Capital.
More than 500 CCTV cameras guard the railway network. The railway police have also heightened the security on the vulnerable areas especially where the trains slow down while entering National Capital.
According to Delhi Police data, in railways, there was a decrease in the crime as 1539 IPC cases were registered in the year 2017 whereas in the year 2016 the cases were 2,848.
Sources further said police are also maintaining a vigil on the broken walls near railway tracks which provide criminals a hideout during the night.
With seven important stations in Delhi, police have also heightened the security of small stations.
Talking about Republic Day security, DCP further stated that they have taken a meeting with porters, auto, and cab drivers. They were briefed about their role in maintaining safety and security in railway stations.
