Pre-test for 2021 census to start in SDMC from August 12
New Delhi: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will soon start the pre-test exercise for the upcoming 2021 population census.
This exercise is expected to draw preliminary information from dwelling units under Ghumanhera and Keshopur villages.
The nodal officer of the pre-test team for the SDMC, on Wednesday, said that this will include house listing by enumeration of blocks and population enumeration. He said that there will be 10 enumeration blocks for Ghumanhera and 65 for Keshopur, with respect to the house listings.
Explaining the process, the nodal officer said that one teacher in each block will contact around 100 to 150 homes to obtain answers to a series of preliminary questions. The information will mostly relate to the type of housing (ownership/rental), type of construction, provision for drinking water, toilets, and drainage system, type of fuel used in kitchens, and communication medium used. There is a total of 34 questions that will be asked during this exercise, the nodal officer added.
The listing of houses will commence from August 12 and continue till September 3, whereas the population enumeration for the 2021 census will be conducted from September 10 to 30.
The nodal officer said that the house listing will be conducted on traditional paper mode and the recently adopted mobile app, which facilitate a conclusion on the feasibility of the paper-free mode.
He added that this exercise will also create awareness among people about the importance of the upcoming population census, which is integral to national-level policy planning.
