Prahari initiative bears fruit: Elderly man nabs burglars
New Delhi: The Prahari initiative of Delhi Police is now helping curb crime in the city, as in a recent case, an elderly man who is a part of the initiative chased down and caught two burglars in east Delhi's Chander Nagar area.
Delhi Police on Thursday claimed that the accused were trying to make away with items stolen from a shop.
The accused persons, who were caught with the help of another security guard, have been identified as Rambir Singh (38) and Ravi Kumar (32), both natives of Uttar Pradesh who have criminal cases registered against them in the past as well.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh stated that on Tuesday, around 12.15pm, the elderly security guard Shobhit Mukhiya was patrolling in the area of Priya Darkhani Vihar.
During this time, he spotted two burglars who were trying to run away with two bags.
The elderly Mukhiya saw the two men jumping off the fence of a house and then running towards the main exit.
Mukhiya first called out to them, but seeing him the duo started running faster, which made the guard apprehensive that the men are up to some mischief.
Immediately, Mukhiya raised an alarm and started chasing these them on foot.
A few meters ahead, he was joined by the police patrol team in the area.
Within a few minutes, the two thieves were caught by the police team and Mukhiya, after which they taken arrested.
