Power tariff was higher during Cong regime: CM
NEW DELHI: A day after Delhi Pradesh Congress chief and former CM Sheila Dikshit said that statehood is not possible, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a dig at Congress regime of Delhi. He said that in Congress time every year the price of electricity used to rise and the Delhiites used to complain about the high price where the citizens are now happy. "Earlier whenever I went to people they used to complain about high electricity price but now everyone is happy. In Delhi, AAP-government gives the cheapest electricity in the country," said CM Arvind Kejriwal.
He also talked about the popularity of Mohallah Clinics across the city. "Greater Kailash is an area where rich people live but when I visited the place some days back the residents asked me to build two Mohallah Clinics there. Rich people are also coming to these clinics because the government provides the best healthcare," he said. The Chief Minister also slammed the BJP over the issue of sealing. "I could not stop sealing because Delhi is not a full state. But if we get the full statehood then I will pass an ordinance which the BJP did not pass in the Center, and stop the sealing," said the CM.
From healthcare, housing, electricity, education, the safety of women to stopping sealing, Kejriwal made a host of promises if Delhi becomes a full state, which will be possible, he claimed, if Delhi chooses AAP candidates from all seven Lok Sabha seats.
"While Delhi pays Rs. 1.5 lakh crore in income-tax every year, the Centre gives it only Rs 325 crore," the chief minister said. Delhi government would have made many more schools and hospitals if the Centre had allocated more funds, he added.
"Some works can't be done till Delhi becomes a full state. Women feel unsafe and there is hooliganism everywhere because Delhi Police doesn't listen to people," CM Kejriwal said. "The police come under the PM and no one can meet the PM," said the CM. If Delhi Police reports to Delhi government, he said, the law and order system will be such that girls will be able to go out at 11 pm without any fear. Sealing will also be stopped in 24 hours, CM Kejriwal promised.
