Politician alleges rape by husband, father-in-law

NEW DELHI: A 39-year-old local BJP woman leader has accused her husband and her father-in-law of rape and harassment.

The BJP leader accused her father-in-law of taking her hostage at knife-point and raping her while she was alone at her home, then clicking objectionable photographs to blackmail her. She claimed that her husband, when told about the incident, beat her up and sexually assaulted her. "I cannot take it anymore," she said in her statement. Police filed an FIR against the two for rape, dowry harassment, unnatural sex and criminal intimidation, among other charges.

The development comes days after the husband claimed a senior leader of the BJP was trying to "lure" his wife out of the marriage. The complainant had said then that her husband was "mentally unsound". The police are now investigating the matter.
