Police used local WattsApp groups to help nab two burglars

NEW DELHI: Sending pictures and CCTV footage of the two burglars on WattsApp group has helped Delhi Police to crack five cases of burglary and theft in Neb Sarai area of South Delhi. The police used its WhatsApp network of local residents to help them identify the two burglars who were seen walking away in the area after the theft in area. Luckily, with the help of the images the locals were able to identify the accused Naveen who is a bad character in the area of Sangam Vihar. Cops apprehended accused Naveen, 23 Years and at his instance other co-accused Dinesh also from Sangam Vihar, age 22 years, were arrested and almost 1.5 Kg of silver jewellery items and 3 gold necklace and many other costly jewellery items were recovered from both the accused.
"We procured the CCTV footage from the area from where the theft was committed. The CCTV footage was displayed in many WhatsApp group of local residents and one of the accused was identified as Naveen," said a senior police officer.
Police soon formed teams to arrest the accused and he was arrested. Later, at his instance, co-accused was also arrested. The interaction between police and public has led to solving of theft cases with the help of mobile app technology.
Both the accused were previously involved in similar cases of burglary of various places in Delhi. Third co-accused Salauddin alias Raja a resident of Jaitpur extension II, Badarpur, age 21 years, was arrested and few Silver jewellery items and many house breaking equipment were recovered from his possession. All the accused are habitual criminals and are previously involved in similar cases in various parts of Delhi, police said. Total five cases of burglary and house theft were worked out.
