Police thwart plan to kidnap businessman, three arrested

New Delhi: The plan to kidnap a Dehradun-based businessman was foiled after city police nabbed three carjackers near Gokalpuri flyover, police said on Sunday. The police claimed that the accused after committing crime used to visit hill stations from the illegal money. The accused have been identified as Gaurav Kapasia (23 ), Gaurav (22) and Sohanvir Singh alias Sandy (31).

"One of the accused's role in the abduction of students of the Amity University in the year 2013 is being probed," said police officers. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Atul Kumar Thakur said that on August 29, the complainant was returning to his home and stopped his car between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Shastri Park when he was allegedly abducted by three persons and robbed of his car, laptop and mobile.

The team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Rajendra Meena made the arrest.

DCP Thakur further claimed that after committing the crime, the accused used to visit different hill stations in India where they spent the money which they got from crime. "They are addicted to liquor and drugs and are fond of the luxurious lifestyle. To fulfil their need for easy money, they started committing car robberies. After committing robberies, they used to go to the hill station for enjoyment," said DCP Thakur. Police claimed that the accused had planned to kidnap a businessman and they conducted recee in Dehradun. "We are investigating the facts in the case," said the police officer.

The following case was not the first in Capital, earlier a gang after committing snatching for months used to go for vacation to tourist spots but their lavish lifestyle came to an end after two of the members were arrested from Central Delhi area. The accused used to go for vacation in Goa, Mumbai and other tourist places. The Delhi Police data claimed that in the year 2018 till August 4,411 cases have been reported whereas last year 8,231 cases were reported to police. After the analysis of data, it was revealed that in the current year, 2,239 cases were solved whereas in 2017 nearly 4,576 cases were cracked by different districts police.
