Police rescue girl from red light area in Kolkata

New Delhi: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has recovered one girl who was missing along with eight other female inmates from Sanskar Ashram in Dilshad Garden since December 2, 2018. The girl was recovered from Sonagachhi in Kolkata.

According to police, nine girls between the age of 17 to 22 years had run away from Sanskar Ashram, Dilshad Garden during the night of 1st and 2nd December 2018.

"The Superintendent of Sanskar Ashram for Girls, Department of Women and Child Development, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, Dilshad Garden stated that eight out of these nine girls were originally from Nepal, while the ninth girl was from Bhagalpur, Bihar. These girls had been rescued from a brothel in G.B. Road," police said.

Delhi Police in their press statement said that on April 27, a team of Anti Human Trafficking Unit raided Sonagachhi red light area in Kolkata and recovered one of the missing nine girls from Rabindra Sarani, Sonagachi, Kolkata. The girl has now been brought back to Delhi and is presently lodged at Nari Niketan, Delhi for care and rehabilitation. A reward of Rs. 25,000 had been declared by Delhi Police Headquarters in the case.
