Police play guide for DU students

New Delhi: To ensure the safety of newcomers in Delhi University, the city police have made anti-ragging desks where students can approach the cops when they are in trouble. Apart from providing security, the police are also guiding students to their classes. The patrolling has been increased in the area so that no anti-social elements bully students. Police claimed that so far they have not got any serious complaints but the students are coming with the queries like locations and PG problems in which Delhi Police is guiding them about the concerned place and the departments.

"Our main concern is safety of the students. We have deployed one male and female staff in front of colleges and also police personnel in plain clothes are taking round inside the campus," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad. Many students come from other states, the main purpose of setting these desks is to make sure that they easily approach police when they find themselves in any trouble. The DCP further claimed that security outside Delhi Metro stations has also been increased. ERVs have been deployed.

Police are also creating awareness about the Himmat-Plus application which is for the safety of the women and girls. "If they provide us with the detail of their journey we will track them until they reach the destination safely," added the DCP who himself is visiting the areas nearby DU to check the security arrangements for the students. The regular patrolling has been going on in the nearby campus and the areas where students live.

The station house officer (SHO), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) are taking several rounds in the area. At the time when the admission started the area surrounding the North Campus of Delhi University was guarded by more than 40 women personnel who were patrolling through motorcycles and PCR.
