Police heighten security for Durga Puja and Ramlila
New Delhi: Just like every year, Delhi Police has heightened the security for Durga Puja to make sure that devotees do not face any problems. The city police have also focussed on community policing at the places where the festival is being celebrated with zeal. Apart from the forces, the Old Delhi's Ramlila is guarded by more than 80 CCTV cameras.
The Chittaranjan Park in South Delhi, the hub of Bengal culture where the goddess Durga has been prayed with revelry, the South Delhi Police has taken extra precautions and they have identified few places where deployment has been done. Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Devesh Srivastava said police have increased the security in the area and they are also in regular touch with the Puja Pandal organisers.
"We have also focussed on community policing and the benefit of Delhi Police Yuva initiative has also been displayed there," said the Joint CP who himself is monitoring the situation. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar stated that at every pandal there is one inspector with other police personnel and also the areas where Puja is taking has been divided into zones and proper security arrangement has been placed.
On the other hand, North Delhi police has made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety of the devotees. Till Monday, a senior police officer claimed that they have not received any complaint regarding any type of crime from Ramlila Ground. The North District police officials held meetings with the different Ramlila committees to apprise them of the security arrangements. More than 80 CCTV cameras have been installed at strategic locations to monitor the proceedings. Police are also keeping an eye on different gangs. DCP (North) Nupur Prasad stated that apart from forces the police have also placed Machans and anti-sabotage checking is going on.
