Pink Line's Shiv Vihar–Trilokpuri section awaits festive inauguration
New Delhi: Delhi Metro is all set to throw open the much awaited Shiv Vihar–Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake section of the Pink Line in the upcoming festive season, as the trial runs on the line have been completed.
Further, the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will inspect the 17.86 km elevated extension on October 20.
"By November end, around Diwali, the 17.83-km Shiv Vihar–Trilokpuri section is likely to be opened to public," said an official of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
He added that the entire section is elevated and comprises of 15 stations, namely Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake, East Vinod Nagar - Mayur Vihar- II , Mandawali - West Vinod Nagar, IP Extension, Anand Vihar, Karkardooma, Karkardooma Court, Krishna Nagar, East Azad Nagar, Welcome, Jaffrabad, Maujpur - Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar.
According to the official, "The special thing is that this will be the first section of Metro to facilitate better connectivity to large parts of north east Delhi, which will facilitate the movement of millions of people."
He added that the section has three interchange stations, at Anand Vihar (with Blue Line), Karkardooma (with Blue Line) and Welcome (with Red Line).
"This section will connect to major transport facilities coming ccross the Delhi-NCR, like Anand Vihar railway station and Anand Vihar UP State bus stand," he further said.
The 59-km-long Line 7 of the Metro network, also known as Pink Line, is part of the Phase-III of Delhi Metro. After opening of the Shiv Vihar–Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake section, the Metro network will become 313.86 km long, the DMRC official said.
"The new communication based train control (CBTC) signalling technology will be implemented on this corridor, and will undergo rigorous testing in stages," he added.
"The response of the train at different speeds, braking, and the interconnection with the operations control centre (OCC) will also be monitored during trials. Behaviour of the track system and the over head electrification (OHE) will be checked repeatedly," he said.
Sources in the Corporation said that construction of this section faced many challenges, including management of heavy traffic at various points at Patparganj, Anand Vihar, Welcome, Jaffrabad and Maujpur.
"The construction in running drain, land acquisition at Patparganj, Anand Vihar, Welcome, Jaffrabad and Maujpur also posed a bottleneck during construction," the official said.
Meanwhile, the IP Extension–Maujpur section consists of five special spans, including two steel spans, over the existing DMRC Red line (Line 1) and Northern Railway tracks between Welcome and Shahdara.
"The Maujpur station is a four-track station, having provision for connection from Maujpur to Mukundpur, a corridor proposed in the Phase-IV project of the DMRC network," the official said.
