Gurugram: The district administration has said that it will compensate people whose residential or commercial structures have been demolished on account of encroachment, as they were built within a range of 300 metres of the Air Force Ammunition depot in Gurugram.
The statement on Friday comes after officials faced the wrath of residents in the area over the mass razing of structures earlier this week.
On three occasions, when officials have gone to demolish structures, angry residents have resorted to stone pelting.
Stating categorically that only upcoming structures in the area are being taken down, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) commissioner Yashpal Yadav urged residents to have themselves registered and settle for claims.
The strict stance, taken by the Punjab and Haryana high court to ensure that no civilian settlement come up within 300m of the Air Force ammunition depot, led the authorities to raze these structures.
In recent years, many settlements started mushrooming around the defence establishment and were demolished by the agencies.
Now, to appraise the high court of the progress made, a survey will be conducted, the report of which will then be submitted to the judges.
It may be noted her that the high court had first ordered that the limit to be 900 m.
However, non-stop construction of civilian settlements around the area led the judiciary to reducing the area to 300 m.
Meanwhile, public authorities have prohibited any new constructions to take place even in the 900 m zone around the Defence area.
Over the years, unchecked real estate development has led to unchecked rise in the construction of commercial establishments in Gurugram.
