Ownership of 464 acres in Gwal Pahari transferred to Haryana Govt

Gurugram: In a major reprieve to the Haryana government, the Gurugram district court has transferred the ownership of the 464 acres of Gwal Pahari land to it. The court case was being fought since 2016. However, the dispute over the land has been raging on since the 1950s.

The case has seen many ups and downs, with the past judgement going against the Haryana government. The rapid development of the areas around Gwal Pahari has led to a high valuation of the green belt.

In the past, the government agencies were been keen on not allowing any encroachments on the green belt area. The ownership pattern at Gwal Pahari was a major source of controversy with allegations of massive corruption in the registration of land for commercial and real estate development at Gwal Pahari. Last year, MCG officials cleared 150 acres that was not being challenged legally. The Gurugram forest division is involved in over thirty legal cases on the issue of Aravallis.

The cases are being fought in Gurugram civil court, Punjab and Haryana high court, National Green Tribunal (NGT) and also in the apex court. Based on the information, there are over 23 cases over Aravallis that are pending at Punjab and Haryana high court, 12 cases in NGT, five cases in civil court and one case in the apex court.
