Over 15,000 take part in run for women's safety

NEW DELHI: To support a social cause to spread awareness towards gender equality and to stop crimes against women, more than 15,000 people including sportspersons, athletes, personnel of the Delhi Police and several school children took part in the half-marathon 'Run For Laadli' here on Sunday.
A police officer said it was an effort to involve and inspire people to come out as a savior and be a part to raise the voice in favour of females and gender equality.
The event, which was inaugurated by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, started at JLN Stadium to Central Park, Connaught place via India Gate (Rajpath).
The event was organised by Delhi Police in association with Ladli Foundation.
The nearly 15,000 participants, including sportspersons, athletes, 2,500 Delhi Police personnel and school children some of whom have been given self defence training took part in the event.
Union Home Rajnath Singh also spoke at the event about the empowerment of women and girls who are a pillar of strength for their family and society as a whole.
Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Delhi Police, spoke about women safety initiatives of Delhi Police and affirmed that it has been and would always be alert and active for the safety of women and their initiatives such as Sashakti, Women PCR Van, Anti-Obscene Call Helpline.
He said events like this generate awareness about women safety and bring about the attitudinal change in the mindset of society at large.
Priyanka Singh Rawat, MP also participated.
