Over 1,100 cases of crimes against women solved this year: Police

New Delhi: As the years increase in number, so do criminal activities in the Capital; especially crimes against women.
Recent data by Delhi Police claimed that more than 1,600 cases of crimes against women were registered with them between January and April this year.
The data, recorded till April 15, states that 578 rape cases have been reported, while 883 cases of molestation have been registered in the Capital. Moreover, Delhi Police registered 182 cases of eve-teasing.
The law enforcement agency has also tightened the noose on criminals, as the data accessed by Millennium Post states that 1,123 of these cases have been solved.
"460 rape cases have been solved, whereas 561 cases of molestation and 102 cases of eve teasing have also been worked out," states the data.
From time to time, Delhi Police has been assuring citizens, especially girls and women, that cops are taking a slew of measures to ensure their safety and security.
These measures include visiting clusters and taking street children to police stations across the city, so as to encourage the vulnerable sections of the society to come to approach police without any hesitation.
Recently, Delhi Police launched a unique initiative 'Saheli' at Rangpuri Pahari Basti in south west Delhi's Vasant Kunj, which received great response from the locals.
The initiative was aimed at spreading awareness and motivating uneducated slum dwelling young females to raise their voice against the crimes committed by their acquaintances and to take action against any kind of sexual harassment.
Meanwhile, last year's data for the corresponding period states that around 563 cases of rape, 944 cases of molestation and 182 cases of eve-teasing were filed with Delhi Police.
"411 cases of rape, 481 molestations cases and 90 cases of eve-teasing were solved," said the data for 2017.
In almost 96 percent of rape cases registered last year, the accused persons were known to the victim, claimed the data. Police officials also claimed that involvement of strangers in cases of rape declined.
According to the data, as many as 2,049 rape cases were reported throughout 2017 and investigation revealed that in 38.99 per cent of these cases, the accused were friends or family friends.
Neighbors were involved in 19.08 per cent of rape cases, while the involvement of relatives was found to be 14.20 per cent.
Employers or coworkers of the victims were involved in 3.86 per cent of the cases, whereas in 20.50 per cent cases other known persons committed the crime.
