Over 100 industrial units closed in Gurugram

Gururgram: The deadly air conditions in Gurugram seems to be now affecting the city's economy. As the air quality levels in Gurugram have nosedived to severe levels, over 110 industrial units in Gurugram have been closed. These industries were placed under the green category for polluting the city's air.

The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) had earlier directed the closure of 400 coal-based plants, 12 mixer plants, and stone crushing zones that are operating in Gurugram. Moreover, based on the evaluation, the HSPCB has also categorised industries into various zones based on the pollutions of these units. Around 230 units have been placed under the red category the highest level for those causing maximum pollution. Next, in line are 360 units that have been placed under the orange category.

Officials have asked the polluting industries to have a measuring device that makes them aware of the pollutants that are being generated from their production activities. The officials however, cite that the dates for their non-operation can be extended if the levels of pollution in the air quality remain severe. These are just some of the steps that are being taken by the authorities to prevent the the adverse impact of deadly pollution on the residents.

Like other parts of the national capital region, Gurugram is suffering from extremely poor air quality levels. On Sunday the air quality index remained extremely poor with PM2.5 levels breaching the 400 micrograms per cubic meter. There was also a high concentration of other gases like Nitrogen oxide, Sulphur dioxide, and carbon monoxide.

Dust pollution, poisonous gases discharged by diesel vehicles and open burning of garbage are some of the factors cited for poor quality of air prevailing in Gurugram.
