Greater Noida: Over a 100 fake ID cards of police personnel which were allegedly being used by the commuters to avoid paying toll tax at Yamuna Expressway have been seized by the Jewar toll management. Police have launched an investigation into the case and are verifying the seized cards.
As per an official of Jewar toll management, these cards have been seized in a 15-day drive by the toll management after it came to light that commuters are using fake ID cards to avail free passage at the toll plaza.
"The drive was conducted after it came to light that people are using cards that belonged to some other persons or police personnel who are exempted from the toll. A drive for the verification of these cards was launched by Jewar toll plaza and found the car occupants face did not match with photo ID," said an official with Jewar toll management.
The officer further said that the suspect fled after the operator asked to call police for their verification.
They also left their cards behind. When nearly a hundred cards were seized by the toll management, they reported the matter to police.
Kumar Ran Vijay Singh, Superintendent of Police (rural), Gautam Buddh Nagar said that they are verifying these cards.
"The police personnel of Gautam Buddh Nagar are exempted from the toll as they maintain security and do patrolling in the area. We have taken the cards into our custody and are verifying them. There is a possibility that police personnel might have given their cards to family or friends but this is also illegal. Investigations are underway and we will launch a case into the matter," said Singh.
