Over 10 kids taken ill after mid-day meal in Uttam Nagar
New Delhi: Over 10 children fell ill after consuming mid-day meal in an Anganwadi in Hastsal Vihar area of Dwarka's Uttam Nagar on Tuesday.
A case has been registered and the police claimed that they are investigating the case from all angles. According to the police, the mid-day meal is supplied to this Anganwadi from a self-help group located in Uttam Nagar, which reportedly supplies the meal to 30 other Anganwadi centres. On Tuesday, rice and boiled gram were supplied for the mid-day meal.
"Rice and boiled gram were served to the children and pregnant women. After consuming the food, 13 children and the helper complained of vomiting and unconsciousness," said a police official, adding that they were sent to DDU hospital for treatment.
The police claimed that a case under section 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) of Indian Penal Code was registered on Tuesday afternoon. The investigation is being carried out and the children are still hospitalized. So far, no arrest has been made in the case. The official further claimed that for 11 years, one Anita has been running the Anganwadi.
There are 46 children and 13 pregnant women in this Anganwadi. Helper Anita has been working there for 5-6 months. The victim children are two to ten years old and live in the Maharani Enclave area of Uttam Nagar.
Recently, over 25 girl students fell ill after consuming mid-day meal at a government school in Rohini. In another case, two girls were taken ill after having mid-day meal at a Delhi government school in East Delhi's Khichdipur in which a dead lizard was allegedly found.
