Online frauds: Police working to reduce response time

New Delhi: To tackle the cases of online fraud, Delhi Police is now working on a formula to compress the response time. The decision has been taken after receiving several complaints regarding the internet cheating. Sources claimed that the police are building a platform, which might be an application, through which the stakeholders including wallet companies, banks will be connected with the investigating agency to curb the crime.

Police sources claimed that recently, they held a meeting with the banks, wallet companies regarding the prevention which should be taken for curbing online fraud. "Through one platform we can share information like affected bank account number regarding the online fraud and ask other agencies to check whether any wallet or bank account had received the fraudulent money, so that the suspicious account can be suspended temporarily," added the sources.

Nowadays, the one time password (OTP) fraud is most common where the accused transfers all the money from victim's account in 20-30 minutes. "If the message is flashed soon after the crime took place, there are chances that the fraudulent transaction can be stopped within the minutes which is taken for the transfer of money," sources added.

For filing the complaint regarding the fraud cases, the victim has to go through a process but now, with the new formula there are chances that the police response time gets shortened after the complaint is received. A senior police officer claimed that the initiative is at an initial stage and they will try to start it soon.

In the year 2018, the national Capital has witnessed more than 1,700 cases of different types of cheating. The police in their data claimed that they nabbed over 400 people involved in cheating cases. However, in 2017, the city has witnessed more than 4,000 cases and 752 of them was solved. While, around 1,123 persons were nabbed for their involvement in the crime.
