Online betting racket busted in Gzb, 2 held

Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad police continued their crackdown on betting syndicates and arrested two persons on Wednesday for allegedly running an online betting racket on the ongoing ICC cricket tournament from Loni area. Police have seized cash, mobile phones and few coupons from possession of accused persons.

According to police, the arrested accused were identified as Deepak Tyagi and Deepak Arora, both natives of Loni area in Ghaziabad. "The police had received a tip-off about a gang operating from a rented accommodation in Loni area," said police officials. "Acting on a tip-off, police on late Sunday night raided a house in Loni area and nabbed the accused red handed while they were jotting down bets on the ongoing match between New Zealand vs Pakistan," said Raj Kumar Pandey, Circle Officer (CO), Loni. The officer further said that the gang used to invite punters while the rates were conveyed to them through whatsapp. "The gang had created an whatsapp group where they accept and place bets. The gang used to get these rates online and convey them to punters who further place bets," added Pandey. Cops said, it came to light that the gang used to connect people living in other towns and cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Meanwhile police are trying to reach their gang members who are operating in other cities of Delhi-NCR region. Rs 20,000 in cash, Whatsapp chats, coupons, 6 cell phones, two laptops and a few diaries were recovered from them.
