One dead as ceiling collapses in Noida school

Noida: At least one person died while more than a dozen got injured after the ceiling of an under-construction roof of the indoor sports complex collapsed in Mayoor International School in Sector 126, Noida on Friday afternoon.
The sports complex is located inside the school. Around 25 workers were busy in carrying out the construction work.
However, the school got over and the students had left for their homes at the time of the incident.
"The incident occurred at around 2:30 pm. A police team rushed to the spot and took the victims to Kailash Super Specialty Hospital in Sector 27, Noida in ambulance and PCR vans.
"A worker, identified as Sunil, hailing from Bihar got critically injured in the incident and was declared brought dead by the doctors. He was taken to the Jaypee Hospital in Sector 128. The rescue work is underway and we are trying to provide every possible help to the injured persons," said a senior police official.
The roof collapsed when the iron pillars bent down and the workers sitting on the top got trapped inside the debris.
"The construction work of the complex was carried out by a private firm. Soon after the incident the contractor is absconding," said the officer.
"At the time of the mishap, the workers were busy in roof casting. The iron shade collapsed and crushed several workers present at the site.
"Police investigations are underway and actions will be taken against the school management or the persons responsible for the fatal incident," said Love Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, G B Nagar.
