One arrested for harassing women employees at airport

New Delhi: After probing into two FIRs alleging sexual harassment inside the Delhi airport, the city police have arrested a man accused of molesting two women employees.

According to police, the women complained of harassment while working for a private company which provides restaurant and lounge services in the domestic airport area. Both FIRs were filed under sections 354, 354 (A), 354 (D), 506, 509 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

"One of the complainants, who has worked in the company for many years, said the accused was passing sexually coloured remarks and touched her inappropriately on many occasions," said a police officer.

In one such incident, during a birthday party, the accused harassed the complainant, after which she went on a leave.

The officer added that she also complained to her seniors at the airport, but the matter was not taken seriously. Finally, she reported it to the cops.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport range) Atul Katiyar on Friday told Millennium Post that the accused, who was a senior official in the business relations department of the company, has been arrested. Katiyar, however, was tight-lipped on the identity of the accused, saying the details will be revealed later.

Police sources added they are also investigating two more FIRs that were registered a few years back against the same accused.

According to police data accessed by Millennium Post, till April 15 this year, more than 500 accused persons were arrested on rape charges, over 700 persons were nabbed for molestation, and over 120 persons were arrested for eve-teasing.
