Notorious thief arrested with firearms and Rs 8.5L cash

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested a notorious thief and armed robber with a substantial cache of firearms, ammunition, and Rs 8.5 lakh in cash.

The police received confidential information about the thief from an unknown source on Friday at Wazirabad Police Station.

The accused was identified as Sunil Kumar (42), a resident of district Jhajjar, Haryana. The accused was previously

involved in three cheating and theft cases which were registered in Rohini, Bawana, and Tilak Nagar, Delhi.

According to the police, they worked relentlessly to track down wanted criminals, and their dedication bore

fruit when a tip-off from a reliable informer led them to the accused.

A raid was swiftly conducted near Wazirabad, Delhi, resulting in his capture. The police have seized a sophisticated semi-automatic pistol loaded with seven cartridges, along with an additional magazine containing seven live cartridges.

Shockingly, Sunil had acquired the firearm, magazines, and ammunition, worth Rs 75,000, using the stolen money. The police also recovered a Scooty worth Rs 65,000 and a smartphone valued at Rs 30,000, both purchased with the ill-gotten funds.

The arrest followed the resolution of a theft case involving Rs 8.5 lakh reported at Sarai Rohilla Police Station, and the recovery of a significant portion of the stolen money, amounting to Rs 5.7 lakh, a month after the incident.

During interrogation, Sunil disclosed his checkered past, which included two marriages and a desire to amass easy and significant wealth in a short period. He had previously collaborated with criminal associates, engaged in various unlawful activities, and admitted to his involvement in a high-profile theft near Inderlok Metro Station.

The Delhi Police is currently working on further investigations and efforts are underway to trace the origin of the illegal weapon.
