Notorious arms peddler held

NEW DELHI: Special Cell of Delhi Police has apprehended a notorious and desperate arms peddler Shamshad, a resident of Muzaffarnagar (47) and recovered one semi-automatic pistol of 7.65 bore with three live cartridges.

On April 8, one notorious Arms peddler Illyas Ansari, a resident of Mawana in UP was apprehended with a consignment of illegal arms having 17 illegal pistols and Illyas Ansari was arrested in this case. This consignment was fetched by Illyas Ansari from one Tariq Anwar of Munger (Bihar) for Shamshad. Tariq Anwar was also arrested in this case. Later the cops learnt from the sources that Shamshad is a notorious arms peddler and indulged in illegal arms peddling for last 15 years. He is main supplier of illegal arms in area of Muzaffar Nagar and Delhi-NCR. Shamshad was evading his arrest. CP Delhi had declared a reward of Rs one lakh for the arrest Shamshad.

Sources deployed and technical surveillance was also mounted. On June 21, specific information was received that Shamshad will arrive in Golden Jublee park, near Salim Garh bypass at 3:30 to 4 pm for receiving payments from prospective buyers. A trap was laid and at about 3.45 pm one person, identified as Shamshad arrived there. When police party surrounded him to arrest, he took out illegal weapon and in order to escape and fired two rounds on the police party. "The gunshots hit the BP jacket of ASI Narender Kumar and constable Mukesh Kumar. Police party also fired two rounds in self-defence. Shamshad was overpowered by the staff without caring for their life," said DCP Special cell PS Kushwah.
