Northern Railway organizes 'shramdaan' to mark Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary
New Delhi: To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Swacchta Pakhwara was organised all over Indian Railway from September 16 to October 2. A "Massive Shramdaan" was organized at New Delhi Railway Station on Tuesday with main focus on "Collection of Plastic Waste".
The Shramdaan involved participation from Railway employees, all other stakeholders and volunteers of NGOs participated in the Shramdaan to make it a success. "This Shramdaan was arranged at each and every station and nearby locality, approach to stations, and area near railway tracks all over the country. The Shramdaan was also organized at Workshops, Depots, Sheds and Workplaces," said Northern Railway press statement.
Chairman Railway Board (CRB) V K Yadav, administered "Swachhta Pledge" to the officers, staff and other voluntary organizations present on this occasion. A Nukkad Natak was organised to create awareness about the evils of use of plastic. Jute bags were also distributed to the passengers.
V K Yadav said that vendors are also being educated not to use plastic, and to be prepared for ban of single use plastic from October 2. He further said that the motto is to "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, of plastic in its various forms".
