Noida Authority to make footpaths easier for elderly, disabled

Noida: The Noida Authority will transform footpaths of the city into model footpaths to make them friendly for the elderly and the disabled, said officials on Thursday.
As per officials, an inspection of footpaths along roads was performed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Noida Authority Lokesh M after which several changes were directed by the CEO to officials of concerned departments.
It was found that the height of the footpath was more than one foot at many places due to which the elderly and people suffering from knee problems face difficulty in climbing the footpath.
“The CEO has given instructions that as far as possible at traffic junctions, slopes should be made for climbing on the footpath so that such people can use the footpath comfortably,” a senior Noida Authority officer said.
Along with this, the CEO gave instructions to install tactile tiles on the footpath for visually impaired people so that they can climb on the footpath
easily and their grip remains while walking.
“Instructions were given to install bollards at the entry points of the footpath so that the movement of vehicles on the footpath could be stopped. These works will be first developed at Shashi Chowk area and based on its experience, it will be implemented in other areas,” the officer added.
Apart from this, instructions were given to mark a plan for construction of slip roads for free left turn by reducing the width of footpaths at the intersections which face heavy traffic congestion.
In many places, reflectors were not found on the central verge, due to which there is a possibility of continuous vehicles hitting the central verge. Instructions were given to install reflectors on such accident prone places on priority, the officer informed. At many places the zebra crossing was found to be faded which was immediately directed to be rectified with thermoplastic paint.
