Noida Authority installs Charkha made of plastic waste
Noida: Ahead of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Noida authority has constructed a Charkha (spinning wheel) made from Plastic Waste, which has been inaugurated by Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister of Women and Child Development and Minister Of Textiles in sector 94 of Noida on Tuesday.
Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Dr Mahesh Sharma, MLA Noida Pankaj Singh and CEO Noida authority Ritu Maheshwari were also present on the occasion.
As per Noida authority officials, the 1650 kg plastic waste charkha is made by using 1, 250 kg of used plastic. "The height of Spinning Wheel is 14 fit, length is 20 fit and width is 8 fit. The specialty of this spinning wheel is that it rotates completely," a senior Noida authority officer said.
Speaking on the occasion, Irani lauded Noida authority for their efforts against the use of plastic and also symbolised the gigantic spinning wheel as not only a representative of construction and beautification but also a commitment towards the plastic-free campaign.
After inaugurating the charkha, the union minister inaugurated a pink toilet in sector 39 which is only for women. The minister marked the newly inaugurated toilet as a contribution to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to construct 11 crore toilets nationwide in past five years.
Apart from this, the minister also launched 15 garbage collection vehicles and initiated a drive under which Noida Apparel Export Cluster will be distributing 1 lakh cloth-made bags in the city for free of cost.
"With 15 more vehicles launched today, there will be a total 140 vehicles going door-to-door for waste collection in Noida. In the coming week, 35 more such vehicles will be added to the fleet, ensuring 100 per cent coverage of Noida under the door-to-door garbage collection initiative," said Ritu Maheshwari, CEO, Noida authority.
Meanwhile, to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, the Noida authority will hold a plog run across the city in October 2, where waste collected during the run will be deposited at Noida stadium at sector 21-A.
Officials said that the drive will be carried out at 100 spots in Noida from 7 am to 9 am in on October 2.
