Noida authority Charkha makes it to Asia Book of Records
Noida: It's a proud moment for Noida authority as the Charkha put on display near Mahamaya flyover in Sector 94, Noida, enters into Asia Book of Records as the Asia's largest 'charkha' (spinning wheel).
The 1, 250-kg spinning wheel is made of used plastic waste which was inaugurated by Union Minister Smriti Irani on the eve of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary this year. Made of 1250 kg plastic waste material, it is 14 feet high, 20 feet long and eight feet wide. The specialty of this spinning wheel is that it rotates completely.
Ritu Maheshwari, CEO of Noida Authority, has received the medal, pen and certificate from Asia Book of Records on October 22. "It is the great honour for all of us and the work is going towards make the city free from waste. I think this award is dedicated to every single person whose efforts make this thing happen" the CEO said.
PM Narendra Modi wanted the country to be free from plastic use and this charkha was prepared in the wake of calling for a ban on plastic by the PM only. The charkha is symbol under the drive from Noida Authority's to make the city free from plastic.
"The Noida Authority has already been running a campaign to aware the people against the plastic use and after collecting the plastic from household, industrial area, the authority had made this charkha which is also a symbol of our fight against plastic use," Maheshwari added.
