No social media profiles viewing on police's official systems

New Delhi: In a bid to protect secret documents from malware, Delhi Police has issued an internal advisory to all the districts and units in which they claimed that no personal emails, social media profiles should be opened on the official computers containing sensitive information.

Police sources told Millennium Post that the advisory was issued by Cyber Cell in which it was written that the links circulated on emails, social media are many times infected with malware. Simply by clicking the link or viewing the videos and photographs may infect these official systems.

"The advisory stated that the persons working on these official computers should never click on links sent by unverified of unsolicited senders as these may result in downloading of malware on the system," claimed the sources.

The advisory further claimed that the persons working on official systems should not connect their personal laptops or mobile to the official networks or computers as some of these devices may already be infected with malware, which may spread to the network when the device is connected to the computer. "Unlicensed software should not be installed in computers. The persons working on the computer should not open gaming sites offering free downloads," added the advisory.

As per the advisory, the official computers containing sensitive information should always have a licensed version of good antivirus software along with malware protection installed and the same should be kept regularly updated.

"The persons should not connect any USB or portable devices. There should be regular checking of these official computer systems and networks should be undertaken by supervisory officers. The police personnel who are found to be not following these directions should be subjected to suitable disciplinary action," the Delhi Police advisory noted.

"The person working on the computers should not download media files and other content from peer to peer connection network," added the advisory.
