No end to misery of high end pubs and bars in Gurugram

Miseries for high end pubs and bars located in the range of five hundred metres on National Highway-8 in Gurugram are still piling on.

In order to serve alcoholic beverages, most of these pubs and bars especially those located in five-star hotels have increased the motorable distance.

Also, under this provision, several of these alcohol serving units have closed their main entry points. They are letting in the customers through the back entrances and staff gates.

But, this plan faced a dead end after MCG officials mentioned that all those pubs and bars that have not registered their entry zones with the public agency will not be allowed to change the routes. It also stated that all five-star hotels that have registered for two entry level gates will not be allowed to use the staff gates as entry points.

"There have been initial reports of certain pubs and bars in the city increasing their motor able distance. However, if the entry levels are not registered with the MCG, our officials will ensure that these new entrances will not be recognised. Ultimately to escape from one law you cannot break another law," said top MCG official.

With these pubs changing their entry routes, a new problem of heavy traffic has cropped up.

This congestion sprawled on the streets is only because of a large number of commuters who take the new routes to visit these pubs.

Following the Apex Court order that allows the prohibition of liquor in the pubs and bars located along the National Highway -8, around hundred pubs in the city have surrendered their bar licences.

Most of them are claiming huge losses post the order and mulling over various strategies to serve alcoholic beverages.

"There is a lot at stake not only for us as bar owners who have spent a lot of capital in setting up our units. Besides, us there is also the livelihood of lots of people at stake. We are therefore devising various new methods to make sure we are able to serve alcoholic beverages to our customers," said a city bar owner.

"There may have been assurances by the Government with the bar owners in trying to find a middle path. The Government must not walk the talk," added the bar owner.
