No bed available: Woman gives birth in washroom

Gurugram: Made to wait for three hours due to non-availability of beds, a woman delivered her baby in the washroom of the government hospital in Gurugram. Luckily, both the mother and her baby boy survived and are doing well.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon. According to sources, the gynecology department has only four beds but there were thirteen deliveries taking place at that time. This is not for the first time when the gynecology department of the Civil Hospital has courted controversies. Last year, owing to an ambulance breaking down an unborn child lost his life.

This year in April, owing to shortage of beds there were reports of two women being made to deliver their babies at the washroom of the hospital. There has also been an instance when lack of ambulance resulted in the death of a mother and child. The state government has transferred certain senior officials and enhanced the facilities at the gynecology ward. Owing to the great demand, there are plans to increase the capacity of the gynecology department. Despite various proposals, the plans have not fructified.
