Nigerian held with drug worth Rs 1.5 cr
New Delhi: The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Crime Branch has arrested a 35-year-old man of Nigerian origin with illegal drugs worth Rs 1.5 crore in the international market. Police claimed that they have recovered high-grade heroin from his possession. The accused identified as Obinna Fortune who is from Imo State in Nigeria has been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Indian Passport Act for not being able to furnish his passport.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Alok Kumar, on June 25, the accused was arrested on the basis of an information from Vikas Puri. They recovered heroin worth more than Rs 1.5 crore in the International Market.
The team who made the arrest was formed under Surender Kumar Gulia, ACP (Anti Human Trafficking Unit). Obinna revealed that he and his associate and fellow countryman Charles have been peddling drugs in Uttam Nagar and Janakpuri area for the past four months. "Fortune had arrived in Delhi on a tourist visa about five months ago. While residing in Uttam Nagar, he came in contact with a fellow countryman named Charles who arranged heroin to be supplied in the city," said Kumar. Fortune has not been able to furnish his passport as yet. According to police, the accused's passport was kept by Charles. Efforts are being made to trace Charles and locate the source of the narcotic substance.
