Nigerian held with 3 kg heroin worth Rs 15 crore

New Delhi: A team of Special Cell has busted an international narcotic drug cartel and arrested a key member of the cartel, identified as Ekene Kenneth Onyetobe, a Nigerian national residing in village Hastal, Uttam Nagar. Three kg of high-grade heroin worth Rs 15 crore in the international market was recovered from him. A case under appropriate sections of law has been registered with the Special Cell. The arrested Nigerian has disclosed that apart from Indians, persons of Afghan and African origin are also part of the drug cartel.

On 24 June, specific information was received in Special Cell that one person Ekene Kenneth Onyetobe of the African origin, who is involved in the supply of heroin in Punjab from Delhi, would come at 11 pm at ISBT Kashmiri Gate to board a bus for Punjab to deliver a consignment of heroin to a Punjab-based drug dealer. He was arrested from there and a search was conducted which resulted in the recovery of 3 kg of high-grade heroin from his bag.

"The arrested accused was thoroughly interrogated. He disclosed that he used to work with another Nigerian who gets the supply of heroin from his counterparts based in Afghanistan. Heroin is being smuggled in India from Afghanistan through Pakistan and J&K. These Afghan couriers used to hand over the consignment of heroin to these persons of African origin in Delhi," said DCP Special Cell PS Kushwah.
