Illegal gambling: Raids in Shahdara, 48 arrested

The crack-down on illegal gambling activities in Shahdara district continues unabated even as the police have arrested around 48 people in simultaneous raids across the district. Over two days, raids were conducted and gambling slips, calculators and Rs 1 lakh was confiscated from the raids.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad: "We had conducted the raids over a two day period. They were conducted on source-based information after which we managed to identify the area where gambling was taking place."
According to police, information was received regarding gambling activities at a house in Old Geeta Colony, Circular Road and at a JJ Cluster located at New Seemapuri. Three separate teams were constituted and from the house in Old Geeta Colony 18 persons were arrested. Police conducted another raid near a public toilet in New Seemapuri and arrested four persons.
Cops also claimed that during the course of investigation, it has been revealed that all the accused persons were gambling through slips at Geeta Colony, Vivek Vihar and Seemapuri.
"In Geeta Colony, accused Satish, the owner of this gambling den, gave attractive offers to customers to earn 90 times of the amount used for betting," police said.
Nitin, Saksham, Jitender and Gopal were his associates and the other 13 arrested accused were gambling through slips. Police further claimed that in Vivek Vihar area the main owner of the gambling den was identified as Ganesh.
"In Seemapuri, Jaswant was identified as the kingpin of gambling and other three were gambling through slips," police said.
