Burglary attempt foiled in Jamia Nagar, one of two culprits nabbed

With the Delhi Police still searching for burglars who broke into Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi's house, another shocking incident of attempted daylight robbery came to light in Jamia Nagar, where assailants fired at the caretaker of a house and injured him seriously. The locals, however, manage to catch hold of one of the three burglars.

Instead of attempting to commit the break in during late night, the burglars dared to break into an apartment in Shaheen Bagh area of Jamia Nagar on Wednesday afternoon. However, the three culprits were unaware that though the flat was locked from outside, the husband and wife were present inside. The couple had come home after finishing a night shift in the company they worked for in Gurugram and had gone to sleep, after their relative locked the flat from outside.

As one of the burglars entered the flat and switched on the light, the couple got up and raised an alarm. The burglar then tried to run away, while being pursued by the couple.

The alert caretaker in one of the ground floor flats, Jawahar-ul-Haq, heard the couple's screams and bravely caught hold of the fleeing accused. However, the burglar's two associates, who had been standing guard outside, tried to scare away the caretaker. Seeing that Jawahar was not leaving their associate they opened fire. After firing two rounds in the air, they fired at Jawahar who was hit in the thigh.

The locals heard the commotion and caught hold of one of the accused, while the other two managed to flee. Jawahar was later taken to a hospital's trauma centre for treatment.

"After Arif was caught by the locals, we identified the other two accused in the incident as Sanjeev and Zahid of Harsh Vihar. We have formed teams to arrest the accused," said DCP South East Romil Baniya.
