Newspaper pile ups outside Satyarthi's house told thieves he was away

It seems before Kailash Satyarthi left for Colombia, he forgot to call his newspaper vendor and tell him to stop delivery at his residence temporarily in Kalkaji resulting in a huge pile-up at his doorstep.

This gave out the first clue to the burglars that Satyarthi was not at home. The thieves stole the Nobel replica and the citation from his house along with some jewellery boxes.

Infact, on the intervening night of February 6 and 7, burglars broke into two more houses of the Arawali Apartments in Kalkaji. The occupants of these houses were also out and their newspapers had piled up outside their homes.

Cops believe that the thieves might have done extensive recce before striking at the three houses. The police suspect it is the handiwork of a professional gang of several members that pays regular visits to their target sites before striking.

"We have registered the FIR in the theft of other two houses as well. We have deployed several teams to arrest the accused in this case," said a senior police officer. The apartments have 17 gates to enter but only 10 gates are functional and not every gate is guarded by guards. Sources say that only three guards were present at night. Police are now questioning the residents of the apartments and also the guards whether they had seen suspicious men at night to accumulate clues to crack the case.

Moreover, 5 CCTV cameras of the locality were defunct forcing the cops to scan the CCTV cameras in the adjoining areas. Satyarthi left for Colombia on January 31 to attend a Nobel Peace Summit.

What else is missing from the house will only be known after his return.
