A massive fire broke out in a cloth-making factory in West Delhi's Mundka area on Monday. So far, the cause of the fire has not yet been established and even after seven hours, the fire could not be brought under control.
So far, no casualties have been reported from the fire. According to a Delhi Fire Service official, they had received the call of the fire breaking out at 1.15 pm. The fire was witnessed when some people saw smoke billowing from the factory located at Gali number-2 , Mundka. "The fire had broken out at around 1 pm. When we were informed about the incident, we sent in with 25 fire tenders initially," said a senior DFS official.
The fire officials had conducted an assessment of the severity of the fire and maintained that it was a medium type fire. However, within a few hours, the fire was upgraded to a serious level and five more fire tenders were deputed to the spot. "We had to send in a total of 30 fire tenders. Since it was a cloth market, the whole area was highly inflammable and the fire soon started to spread in volume and was uncontrollable. We tried to douse it but later, the terrace of the factory collapsed," the official added.
So far the police and fire officials have maintained that they are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire. Fortunately, no one was working at the factory during the fire. During the filing of this report, the fire was not yet under control. "The whole factory is at least 1,000 square feet in area and it is taking us time to bring the fire under control. Once that is done, we will be able to ascertain the exact cause of fire," said Deputy Fire Chief DFS, Atul Garg.
