The case came to light on Wednesday when secret information was received by the police that one person would be travelling in a tempo and would transport illicit liquor in the morning hours from Dwarka Sector-2 area.
A team was deputed that set up barricades near a transformer in Dwarka Sector-2 area. "At around 5 in the evening, the team spotted the tempo coming from Dwarka Sector-2 areas. The driver was asked to pull over and later his vehicle was searched and we found 300 cartons of Haryana-made liquor which were confiscated from the driver," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-west), Surender Kumar.
The driver was questioned and he was identified as Naresh (22), a bootlegger, involved in three cases of bootlegging. When he was interrogated, he revealed that he was involved in bootlegging cases in Haryana and was on his way to supply the liquor for the upcoming UP elections.
"He had been taking the Haryana route and was supplying the illegal liquor for the UP elections. We are now trying to find out about his source and also the buyers who were supposed to receive the cartons. We are currently investigating the case," said a senior police official.
